Router is inspired by the movement of a rotating engraver carving into plastic. When the router starts or stops, there can be a slight swelling of the stroke — a feature I exaggerated and made the central feature of the typeface.
Selected for the Graphic Design: Now in Production show at the Walker Art Center and Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum.

Maslow's Hammer, also known as the Law of the Instrument, is a psychological principle that describes how people tend to over-rely on a familiar tool or method when solving problems, even if other, potentially better options are available. The phrase “if all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail” is a common and well-known expression of this idea.
