Gear

Gear is a bold, high-performance typeface built to stretch, flex, and power through any layout. With sharp octagonal forms, aggressive slants and backslants, and an extreme range of widths and weights—from ultra-narrow to ultra-wide, hairline thin to ultra black—Gear delivers impact with precision and style.

Originally commissioned by Adidas as an all-caps display face, Gear was designed to push the boundaries of expressive typography. In 2018, it became one of the first variable fonts adopted at an enterprise level by a global brand.

Since then, Gear has evolved into a complete system. We’ve added a full lowercase character set, refined the drawing and proportions, and expanded the range to include slanted and backslanted styles, dramatically increasing its versatility. The collection now spans 8 widths and 9 weights in each of the three angles: backslanted, upright, and slanted.

Also available as a variable font, Gear enables smooth interpolation across all axes, making it a powerful, adaptive tool for expressive, space-filling typography.
